What is standard bass guitar tuning?

Standard 4-string bass tuning is E-A-D-G, from the lowest (thickest) string to the highest. This is one octave lower than the corresponding strings on a guitar. Most bass music is written for standard EADG tuning.

What is 5-string bass tuning?

5-string bass adds a low B string below the standard 4 strings, giving B-E-A-D-G. This extends the bass range down to B0, enabling deeper notes without retuning.

What is Drop D bass tuning?

Drop D bass tuning lowers the lowest string from E to D, giving D-A-D-G. This adds a deeper low D note and makes D-based riffs easier. It is common in rock and metal.

How do I tune a bass without a tuner?

Tune the low E string to a reference pitch (piano, tuning fork, or online tuner), then tune each subsequent string using the 5th fret method: fret the 4th string at 5th fret to match the open 3rd string (A), and so on.

Why does my bass go out of tune?

Common causes: new strings that have not stretched yet, temperature or humidity changes, worn nut slots, or loose tuning machines. New bass strings need 1-2 weeks of regular play before they fully stabilize.
