Which note should I learn first on piano?

Start with Middle C. It's in the center of the keyboard, it appears in both treble and bass clef, and all other notes can be learned in relation to it.

How do I remember all the note names?

Use the groups of black keys as landmarks: two black keys = C, D, E nearby; three black keys = F, G, A, B nearby. Daily practice with a keyboard diagram ingrains the notes in a few weeks.

What are the black keys called?

Each black key has two names — a sharp name and a flat name. For example, the black key between D and E is called D# or Eb. Which name you use depends on the key signature of the piece you're playing.

Do I need an 88-key piano to learn?

No. Beginners can start with a 61-key or 49-key keyboard — they cover several octaves and are more affordable. As you progress, a full 88-key keyboard becomes important for advanced pieces.
