What does 120 BPM feel like?

120 BPM is two beats per second — a moderate, energetic pace similar to a brisk walk or a typical pop song. Most beginners find 120 BPM comfortable to play along with.

Is higher BPM always harder to play?

Generally yes, but difficulty also depends on the music. A fast simple melody may be easier than a slow complex piece. Start at whatever BPM lets you play accurately, then gradually increase.

What BPM should beginners practice at?

Start at 60 BPM or slower — one beat per second. This is slow enough to think about every note before you play it. As accuracy improves, increase by 5 BPM increments.

Why does playing with a metronome feel difficult at first?

This is completely normal. Start by just clapping or tapping along without your instrument. Once following the click feels natural, add your instrument. Daily practice with a metronome makes it feel comfortable within a few weeks.
